You would come to Istanbul as Byzantium and then again as Constantinople and then yet again as the modern day Istanbul. The Roman Empire, The Ottoman Empire, the Byzantine Empire and the Latin Empire all called this beautiful city between the Sea of Marmara and the Black Sea their capital. An intricate part of the infamous Silk Road, this city has been draped in mystic and teeming with a meshing of cultures since 660 BC.

The summer sees a massive influx of tourists to Istanbul. If you are coming between July and September be sure to book your tickets to Istanbul as early as possible. Cheap hotels in Istanbul are easily found during the winter months as the temperature can drop to around freezing and the tourists stay home.
